The Herb
In Ayurveda, movement is life.
Whenever Vata becomes obstructed — within the joints, the intestines, the nerves, or the body’s deeper channels — pain, dryness, stiffness, heaviness, and degeneration gradually emerge.
For centuries, Ayurveda turned to Eranda as one of its foremost herbs for restoring flow where movement had become restricted.
Known classically as Gandharvahasta — “the celestial hand” — Eranda was revered for its penetrating, lubricating, and Vata-pacifying intelligence. Ancient physicians especially valued the root in traditional wellness routines associated with stiffness, joint discomfort, dryness, sluggish elimination, and accumulated Vata within the body.
Unlike merely stimulating herbs, Eranda was traditionally honoured for combining warmth with unctuousness — helping the body release obstruction without excessive depletion.
ASLI AYURVEDA offers Eranda root in its most authentic form — carefully harvested, naturally sun-cured, and preserved without additives or artificial enhancement.
This is not merely a cleansing herb.
This is Ayurveda’s philosophy of restoring flow, softness, and movement.
What the Ancient Texts Say
Charaka Samhita
Ēraṇḍō vātaharaḥ snigdhō bastiśūlavināśanaḥ ।
Anulōmanakārī ca śōthagulmanivāraṇaḥ ॥
“Eranda is unctuous and traditionally associated with balancing Vata, supporting downward movement, and reducing obstruction and stiffness.”
Charaka especially honours Eranda for its Vata-pacifying and Anulomana (downward-moving) qualities.
Bhavaprakasha Nighantu
Ēraṇḍaḥ kaṭukaḥ snigdhō vātaśūlavināśanaḥ ।
Śōthaharō bastiśuddhikṛt dīpanō'nulōmanaḥ ॥
“Eranda is pungent and unctuous, traditionally associated with reducing Vata discomfort, supporting cleansing, and promoting healthy downward movement.”
The classical texts consistently describe Eranda as a herb of lubrication, movement, release, and Vata balance.
